France Charles Guillaume Brun (1825-1908) A rare small (in comparison with his other Orientalist paintings) oil painting on canvas signed lower right corner and dated 1886. Classic Algerian intimate interior scene, very refined. In fair condition. There are three old but professional restorations and a little paint loss on the male figure. See the pictures. It sits in a wood gilded frame (some touch ups). Dim: 51 x 39 cm total / painting 43,5 x 32,5 cm Charles Guillaume Brun, né à Montpellier en 1825, mort à Paris en 1908, s’inscrit en 1847 à l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris, où il étudie sous la direction de François-Edouard Picot (1786-1868) puis d’Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889). Sa participation au Salon débute en 1851 avec des sujets de genre (Jeune fille faisant sa prière du matin), mais dès 1853, il envoie régulièrement des scènes Orientalistes, situées en Algérie (La Prièreen 1859, Rendez-vous à Constantine en 1861, Femme Mauresque en 1867), d’une grande rigueur architecturale, animées de contrastes tranchants dans les effets d’éclairage et montrant dans les modulations de gris une fine sensibilité. Outre ses nombreux paysages d’Algérie, il se fait aussi connaître comme portraitiste militaire, peignant avec précision les uniformes, et devient naturellement peintre officiel au ministère de la Guerre, où il collabore avec Alexandre Cabanel. Il est également l’auteur de décorations d’églises, dont celle de Villemomble (Martyre de saint Laurent, 1857). Brun devient sociétaire des Artistes Français à partir de 1883.

Antique terracotta bust by the renowned sculpture and student of Toussaint: Ch. Lévy. Signed on the back.
He participated in the Salon de Paris from 1873 to 1898. He obtained his third medal in 1889.

The refined bust is of a woman with elaborate hair, a hat, a ribbon, a ruffled top and a Virgin locket. Possibly a depiction of Marie Antoinette.
Overall in good condition, one chip on the foot rim, practically not to be seen when standing.
Normal wear but no restoration.

A Catholic reliquary pendant in the shape of a crucifix, in metal and ebony, on the inside there are 18 different Saintly relics: Pp. X. / Benedictus / Theresa / Ursula / Dorothe / Clarae / Creszen and others.

Certainly ex-ossibus covered for protection with a cross pattern cloth wire).
It also contains a wax seal plus semi precious stones.

The relics are in good condition, two small stones are missing.

A Renaissance style antique lidded majolica polychrome casket on four feet.
Decorated with four putto, rams heads and laurel reefs. The lid with a sea monster fish figure.

In good condition: a kiln flaw on the lower rim (dark patch) and normal wear and minute damage to the glazing. No cracks or chips. The lid doesn't close perfectly but good enough.

Signed on the bottom.

From an estate sale, small castle in the neighborhood of Namur.

Depicting a water landscape scene and a view of the countryside. The countryside scene has a darker background color (over time) then the water scene. No spots or tears.

They sit in 20C wooden gilded frames behind mirroring glass. Difficult to take photos because of the glass.

A rare collection of 9 antique embossed gold leather seat covers (a well known historical purpose of gold leather) in fair condition. They are all the same size and numbered.

Depicting the classical Renaissance motif of flowers and floral scrolls. Different colors: silver, gold touches, blue, green and purple on a red background. Some wear and superficial rubbing. No holes or tears.

Perfect for restoration purposes or as seat covers.

Not signed in the front but the provenance is an artsdealer by the collection of the family of the artist.
Definitely by the artist.

They are in good condition. Behind glass, some spots one one but still good colors and no damage.

As very often with silver from this region it’s unmarked. Great workmanship and heavy.

From a private collection and always kept as decoration plate, so practically unused.

Last picture comes from The Met site, in their collection this first quarter XIII century copper enamels-champlevé plaque. The inspiration for the jeweler and artist Ojer.
